The Great Catnip Caper of 1909

lyric

By Julie O'Hara - Author, Poet and Spiritual WarriorPublished about 2 hours ago 2 min read

Verse 1

Herman Gottlieb had a scheme, a wild idea in his mind,

Selling catnip door to door to every cat lover he could find.

He dreamed of joy for his furry friends way up in the Bronx,

But fate soon took a turn on a bustling New York block.

In one careless fated moment the cat treats spilled onto the street,

And suddenly, there was the thunder of a thousand feline feet.

Chorus

Alley cats, roof cats, cats on the beat,

Crowding every doorway for Herman’s elite treat.

Stashing every bag, then they made a break for it—

In the Great Catnip Caper of 1909!

Verse 2

Herman’s problems soon grew quick and fast as catnip scattered everywhere,

He shouted, "Hey, it’s just a little spill!" but nobody cared… nobody cared.

The cats came running, drawn by the yummy scent,

Clawing, purring, yowling in this feverish event.

A symphony of meows echoed through the city air,

A feline brigade blocked the streets, with only one care.

Chorus

Alley cats, roof cats, cats on the beat,

Crowding every doorway for Herman’s elite treat.

Stashing every bag, then they made a break for it—

The Great Catnip Caper of nineteen o' nine!

It was The Great Catnip Caper of 1909

Oh my...

Verse 3

The cops rolled in with faces grim and tight,

Dead set on ending that wild, furry sight.

"This catnip is a menace!" they barked with a glare,

As they cuffed poor Herman while cats pawed the air.

He whispered, "I just wanted to spread some good cheer,"

Then sat in his cell with a cat-nippy sneer.

Verse 4

The cats wouldn't stand for their dealer in chains,

They used every ounce of their feline-rich brains.

With a pick of a lock and a leap through the bars,

They whisked Herman out 'neath the light of the stars.

The guards found the cell filled with whiskers and .... Catnip

The Great Catnip Caper of 1909

Chorus

Alley cats, roof cats, cats on the beat,

Crowding every doorway for Herman’s elite treat.

Stashing every bag, then they made a break for it—

The Great Catnip Caper of 1909

It was The Great Catnip Caper of 1909

Oh my...
