Catnip Caper of 1909
lyric

The Great Catnip Caper of 1909
Verse 1
Herman Gottlieb had a scheme, a wild idea in his mind,
Selling catnip door to door to every cat lover he could find.
He dreamed of joy for his furry friends way up in the Bronx,
But fate soon took a turn on a bustling New York block.
In one careless fated moment the cat treats spilled onto the street,
And suddenly, there was the thunder of a thousand feline feet.
Chorus
Cats in the alley, cats on the roof,
Cats in the doorways, cats on the street.
All they craved was Herman’s irresistible treats.
It was the Great Catnip Caper of 1909.
Herman’s problems soon grew quick and fast as catnip scattered everywhere,
He shouted, "Hey, it’s just a little spill!" but nobody cared… nobody cared.
The cats came running, drawn by the yummy scent,
Clawing, purring, yowling in this feverish event.
A symphony of meows echoed through the city air,
A feline brigade blocked the streets, with only one care.
It was the Great Catnip Caper of 1909.
Verse 3
The cops showed up, their faces grim and tight,
Less than amused by the wild, furry sight.
"Sir, your catnip’s a danger—Harlem is up in arms
So they cuffed poor Herman, much to the cats alarm,
For stirring up kitty chaos in the Bronx that summer day.
He simply whispered, "I just wanted to sell some catnip"
And in his lonely cell, Herman sat with a guilty grin.
It was the Great Catnip Caper of 1909.
