Seven Milt Seebaum followed Pat Ireland into her little apartment, noting the soft smell of womanhood as it rose to greet his nostrils. His own place never smelled like that, he thought bitterly. Inside, the refuse of an over-intellectual woman that had sublimated her femininity in a pile of boring course work, lay scattered around the dim room. Text-books lay half open, revealing diagramatical constructions that were as perplexing as the inside of Pat Ireland’s head. Mountains of papers were stacked precariously upon a flimsy computer desk. A few dirty dishes rounded everything out. It was a normal, boring, compact place; the place a thirty-three year old faculty member might be expected to live. There were framed posters of The Beatles, and a screen saver of Stonehenge. There was the regulation poster of the Eiffel Tower bought in Paris. It was bourgeois chic. “Make yourself comfortable Milt. Want something to drink?” He felt the first few stirring of excitement grip him. How long had it been since he had been offered a drink by a young woman? “Sure,” he said as evenly as possible. He was getting a little nervous now. What was she expecting him to say, “hell no”? “How about a beer? It’s what’s handy.”

The fog lay heavy and thick across the courtyard as a sole figure emerged from the dark shadows along the tree line. She stood alone, glancing about her surroundings. Pulling the hood down further to cover her face she silently made her way alone the cobbled stone path. In the distance a tight grouping of buildings provided a dim solitary light in the fog.

The Wells Fargo carriage rocked on its axles as it picked up speed on its way out of Fort Monroe. The springs squeaked and the wood clunked, and before long things settled into that easy rhythm that you can tune out as you travel. Jared Gossler looked about. He was in for a full night of travel atop a miserable rickety stool that was already gnawing at the bones of his considerable rear. Three months now he’d been moonlighting on this security detail, and within two weeks he’d requested a cushion or a more comfortable chair. “Discomfort’s good for this job,” the boss had said. “Comfortable guards fall asleep.” With that, he would hear no more. Jared was getting close to bringing a cushion in from home. Marybeth would throw a fit if he did and forgot to bring it back, but the hell he’d catch would be worth it. This stool could grind an ass to powder.

James Tony Scott is a 25-year-old man from West Lothian. He started his accomplishments by getting 3A’s and 2B’s in his sixth-year Advanced Higher exams. His qualification was in Maths, Physics, English, Media Studies and Physical Education. He went on to complete a Applied Sciences Degree from the University of Edinburgh. After applying for the police force at 18 years old, he passed every test with flying colours. Before he knew it, he was a fully-fledged police officer and was promoted to the rank of detective within 4 years. He was promoted to the rank of Detective Sergeant within 2 years of becoming Detective. His arrest record is impeccable. He was fully supported by his step-mother, Yvonne Walker, and father, Brian, in everything he did. He always kept his body in peak physical health. The only time that James has ever taken more than a weeks’ holiday is the unfortunate time 5 years ago, when his mother and father were involved in a hit and run. They could of survived the hit and run until the driver got out of his car and shot them dead in cold blood. This mystery man has not been caught... until now. 2 weeks after his mother died, he received a letter through the post that would shake him to his core. He opened the letter and unsteadily took a seat, shaking nervously. It read “Hi son, by the time you read this, I will be dead and there’s something you need to know. This world is filled with people that aren’t who they seem. Be cautious and question everyone. I love you son”. He broke down and wept. He didn’t read into it a lot because he was a detective and he questions everything but there was one day that would change his life forever.

Detective Chief Constable Stewart Mason and Detective Sergeant James Scott had been on the road with their girlfriend’s, Becky and Katy, now for about 14 hours and the journey had started to take an effect on them. They finally were greeted by a road-sign reading “Welcome to Scotland”. Both James, Mason, Becky and Katy both perked up and slapped on their playlist they’d both created for their trip. The singing and laughter were contagious. Suddenly, James started cringing as Becky started singing along to, We Are The Champions by rock legends Queen. Her playlist was probably 90% Queen. It was safe to say she had an obsession.
