Traditions (Chapter 2)
Chapter Two One of the many things you forget about when you live in small backwater towns is that there just aren’t the facilities and services available here that there are in the city, so we didn’t end up with the paramedics after all. There was an ambulance in the town, which was based at the hospital, it arrived about fifteen minutes later with one ambulance officer and a nurse from the hospital.

The Seventeenth Summer (Ch 18)
Chapter Eighteen They drove south, after going through town and then skirting the small harbor that was home to the local fishing fleet, before heading along the old coastal road that was the original route into Macquarie Harbour. Jake pushed a cassette tape into the player and the van was soon filled with the sounds of the Beach Boys.

The Seventeenth Summer (Ch 17)
Chapter Seventeen Apart from the opening of presents, one of the usual rituals of Christmas mornings in the Anderson household was for all the relatives to be called on the phone, or for them to call, in order to pass on Christmas greetings and catch up on everything that had been going on in each other’s lives. This year wasn’t any different with a procession of grand-parents, aunts, uncles and cousins all putting in an appearance while the phone was passed around all of the members of Danny’s family.

The Seventeenth Summer (Ch 16)
Chapter Sixteen Danny was dreading the thought of having to go home and face his mother who knew that he must have stayed out all night, so he stayed away from his home for as long as he could. He also knew there would be hell to pay, but strangely, now that he had shared his biggest secret and his greatest fears with his best friend, while also having made the big decision to join Jake in that adventure they called life, he felt surprisingly calm.

The Seventeenth Summer (Ch 15)
Chapter Fifteen As he headed toward the centre of town, down darkened, tree-lined streets, Danny’s head was a jumble of emotions. He was excited by the thought of seeing Jake again, even if he was still concerned about the way in which he had been acting when they had left him earlier. He was also worried about what his mother had been saying about his stepfather being home tomorrow.

The Seventeenth Summer (Ch 12)
Chapter Twelve Danny was already awake the next morning when Jake finally opened his eyes. He had been lying there beside him, propped up on one elbow and watching him sleep, trying to figure out just how he had managed to end up in bed with such a beautiful young man. Well, not exactly in bed, it was more like on the bed, as that was how they had fallen asleep the night before.

The Seventeenth Summer (Ch 11)
Chapter Eleven The boys were lucky. When they finally made it to the small movie theatre, the doors were just being opened for the late afternoon show with the first movie being a cowboy movie that had played here before. They bought their tickets for the double feature, then a drink, a packet of Jaffa lollies and a choc-top ice cream each. They then decided to wait out most of the first movie in the foyer, at least until it was almost over; then they would go in, find a seat, and while everyone else was outside during intermission, they would settle in.

The Seventeenth Summer (Ch 10)
Chapter Ten After Sergeant Bailey had left, the boys helped Jake straighten out his campsite and clean up the mess of broken glass and plastic from the shattered lights and tail lights, before they all sat down beneath the canvas shelter.

The Seventeenth Summer (Ch 9)
Chapter Nine Jake didn’t know what time it was when he awoke, or should that be, when he regained consciousness? He knew that something had happened last night, but as he lay face down in the sandy patch of dirt just near his shelter, looking at his disheveled campsite and the back of his van, he couldn’t remember what it had been.
