Amethyst Stopped My Panic Attacks
I bought it for my panic attacks
not for beauty
not for luck
just to stop the world from spinning
A heart-shaped stone
deep purple
worn round my neck
not for anyone else to see
just for me
It doesn’t flash or whisper spells
it just sits
solid
cool against my skin
when my chest tightens
and the noise begins
I hold it like a steady hand
not magic
not a miracle
just something to grip
when I feel myself slipping
I don’t care what people think
they weren’t there
they didn’t see
what it’s like
to fight your own breath
After a few days
the panic softened
then stopped altogether
I’ve worn it every day since
a month now
and not one attack
This heart
this stone
gave me back
the bit of calm
I couldn’t find on my own

Turquoise Clouds in a Green Sky
“I always remember the first time I saw the green sky and the turquoise clouds skating across it.” These words had stayed with Alice Barrett for two years. She’d been six- years-old and snuggled next to her great-grandmother, known to nearly all the family as Granny Rose, on a large, rather uncomfortable armchair. Granny Rose had been telling her a story, at least that’s what Alice believed, but it was a strange memory, blurry apart from those few words.
