Eucalyptus Tree 427 861 Melbourne Australia
You’re my anchor to this earth,
when all around seems wrong.
City fumes claw at my throat,
you take them from my lungs.
Lush foliage hides me from the heat,
like fingers ticking the sky.
Drinking power from pure light,
silver cools my weary eyes.
I see all creation in your form,
70,000 but you’re my special one.
I love you just the way you are,
Eucalyptus Tree, 427 861.
Your admirer
What comes back:
Time works differently for me,
yours flies by in just a blink.
You only see the surface,
but I go deeper than you think.
I flourish in light it’s true,
my roots in darkness dwell.
Anchoring the sky and earth,
And you it seems, as well.
Sit awhile, let me cool you,
fill your nostrils with my scent.
Some think I’m just the background,
but I’m the main event.
Your Eucalyptus tree 427 861

“If you’ve ever pondered what trees think about life’s major issues, the city of Melbourne has come up with an elegant solution – you can email them and find out. The city council has devised an interactive urban forest map that provides individual data on each of the 70,000 trees that line the streets and parks of central Melbourne.”
