Different Types Of Knowledge

The Kinds That Cripple Us And What Is Needed To Overcome Them

By Dr. Cody Dakota Wooten, DFM, DHM, DAS (hc)Published about 16 hours ago 3 min read

I am a big fan of knowledge.

There is so much that one can do with knowledge.

However...

Over the years, I have learned...

That there are different types of knowledge...

And not all knowledge is equal or valuable.

For instance...

Misinformation is a type of knowledge.

But it is not truly valuable to the person who knows it.

In many cases, it is actually very harmful.

Yet, it is still knowledge.

Then there is some knowledge that may have high value...

But it is only valuable for the first individuals who get known for it...

And for only a limited amount of time before its value diminishes greatly...

Or completely.

I have seen this with most marketing tools and technology.

A few individuals rise to some level of success and recognition...

Some more than others...

Then, when that form of marketing and technology falls out of favor...

Suddenly, those individuals disappear.

The extreme rise and catastrophic fall often is too much for people to come back from.

Then there is a lot of knowledge that we can obtain...

But then it is never utilized in our lives.

Does that knowledge have value?

Theoretically.

But if it is never applied toward anything in real life...

Then it is practically valueless.

There is also a type of knowledge that exists...

Which we seek...

But we seek not for the sake of using it...

Rather, we seek it as a way to avoid something.

Whether it is avoiding starting down a path...

Or avoiding coming to terms with our own self-image...

When we seek knowledge in this manner...

It actually becomes a barrier in our lives.

When these types of knowledge are sought or obtained...

We become crippled in our lives.

So, what is needed to overcome these types of knowledge?

Wisdom.

It is what allows us to accurately determine what is true...

Combined with the ability to determine our actions in a beneficial way.

This is something most people fail to obtain.

Knowledge is easy to obtain.

Even easier in today's world.

But wisdom is significantly harder to obtain.

Many of the people we hold in such high regard in today's world...

Lack any form of wisdom.

The result...

Is that so many people...

Chase and follow...

These individuals who have some form of knowledge...

But lack wisdom...

And it causes them to fall into so many traps in their lives.

Knowledge can be wonderful in our lives...

Powerful even...

But without wisdom, it usually leads to the types of knowledge that cripple us.

If you believe yourself impervious to these things...

Then it is likely that you are the most deceived of all.

The further I have looked into psychology...

The more it seems that those who are most confident...

Are also the least wise.

There is an interesting interplay between confidence, knowledge, and wisdom...

Where, when we pursue one too far...

The others begin to go out of alignment.

We need enough knowledge to be applied in our lives...

But not so much knowledge that we never use it.

Enough confidence to become the best versions of ourselves...

But not so much that we become self-deluded.

Enough wisdom to find how to move through life in beneficial ways...

But not so much that we lock ourselves in ivory towers and disconnect from reality.

It is only in the balance of these...

Where we will be able to attain our potential.

Wisdom = truth-based knowledge + life experience + the need to be a better human and help others. Many people think they are wise without the last ingredient but that’s exactly what makes wisdom what it is. Excellent reflections, Cody.
