James Bond: My Top Picks For The Next 007

Who could carry the licence to kill next?

By Christopher HalesPublished a day ago 4 min read

The next Bond is within reaching distance...kind of. We have a director locked in. A writer locked in. We're now just down one MI6 agent.

With production expected to kick off sometime in 2026, it can only mean we'll have a casting announcement incoming soon. The question is, who will carrying the licence to kill?

Well, we've got some strong, logical ideas for who could be in the role next. Let's take a dive into it.

Ben Radcliffe

Not one of the more recognisable names on the list, but a possible contender.

Radcliffe doesn't have the longest of filmographies, but he has been acting since he was a kid and has shown his acting chops in projects such as Masters of the Air and Fackham Hall. He's got the acting ability, but he's also got the look. You can't doubt that.

He is pretty young. Pretty young for OO7. Radcliffe is 27, which would make him the youngest actor to don the tuxedo and jetpack. Would that be a bad thing? Necessarily not. There have been rumours of the soft reboot establishing a younger Bond for developing the character more and longevity. So this is a casting that could work in that respect.

Something else that backs his chances is his profile. With a role like Bond, studios tend to want to go for fresh faces and as Radcliffe is relatively unknown to average moviegoers, it makes him a perfect fit.

Harris Dickinson

One of the more recent favourites out there.

Dickinson has had a great run of projects over recent years. The King's Man. The Iron Claw. See How They Run. The list goes on. Hell! He's currently in production on the four Beatles biopics starring as John Lennon.

He's a strong, upcoming actor who is building up a strong body of work. So, wouldn't the icing on the cake be joining a big franchise like this?

Again, he's slightly younger than who would be cast usually, but a younger casting may be a great way to reinvent Bond's story.

His role as Lennon will likely take him into the beginning of the Summer. Maybe slightly past that. So it would then leave him open to take on this iconic role.

Jonah Hauer-King

A bit left field, but stay with us.

Jonah Hauer-King will be most recognisable from his role in the live-action Little Mermaid, plus his recurring role in the latest season of Doctor Who.

Now, look at this guy. He's maybe a bit too much of a pretty boy for Bond. But, if you've seen him act, you will know he would bring something interesting to the role. A wide eyedness to it. Something that would definitely be interesting, especially if the character was to be younger than he is traditionally. It would give some grounds to seeing him harden and toughen up over his time with MI6.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson

Okay, now we're getting deep into it.

Taylor-Johnson has been a fan favourite for a good few years now. There has even been reports that he's been locked in for the role. Would that be a good thing? Certainly.

Arguably, out of all of the picks in this list, Taylor-Johnson is the most logical choice. He's got the charming look. He's got the muscle. He's got the acting ability. He fits the bill. He's the usual pick. But...that's the thing. "The usual pick".

Now seems like a good time to try and reinvent the Bond character. How? We don't know, we'll leave that to Amazon Studios. But off the top of our heads? Someone younger. Someone of a different race. Someone who doesn't look the part traditionally. Something to breathe new life into the role. Of course we wouldn't be complaining if we got a traditional looking Bond, but it just doesn't seem likely. And because of that, Taylor-Johnson's chances seem dashed.

Callum Turner

Another top pick from recent times.

Callum Turner is another name that has been knocking around Hollywood more and more these days. He's a popular actor and he's a popular choice at the moment - he's another that bookies are tightening the odds on. And we can see why.

Not only is a hot topic at the moment, but he's maybe just what we need for the next Bond. He's quite a bit away from Daniel Craig's look. He doesn't really fit the same mould as any of the other Bond actors. He'd certainly be a surprising but welcomed pick.

He would also fit more of the Bond that is depicted in the original novels from Ian Fleming. There have been rumour of the future movies being period movies, depicted as being in the 1960s. There is definitely a feeling that Turner as a swarve '60s spy could work perfectly.

Henry Cavill (YES! EVEN NOW!)

"THAT'S WHY HE'S THE GOAT! THE GOAT!"

Henry Cavill may have narrowly missed out on the role back in the early 2000s, but does history need to repeat itself when his casting is perfect?

I know, a new direction for Bond is probably where we are headed, but like I said. A classic Bond fit is still wecome nonetheless.

Cavill missed out on being cast in Casino Royale due to ultimately being deemed too young in comparison to Daniel Craig. Surely he doesn't have to miss out because he's too old now!

Craig was 38 years old when he first played Bond. Cavill is 42. He's slightly older, but Craig did play the role until he was 53. Who is to say Cavill needs to play the role as long?
