“No, I’ve never cheated on my boyfriend,” Everet said, wondering why his tone was masking an invitation as a statement.
“Do you think that might change tonight?” Luca asked seductively.
Everet gave a nervous laugh and tried to change the subject.
“We should watch Scream 5 tonight. It’s the best in the franchise.”
“And why is that?” Luca asked curiously.
“Jenna Ortega. Duh. Her intro in the franchise is flawless,” said Everet, who was now licking the tip of a knife with the tip of his tongue as he glanced through his ajar bedroom window.
“Look at you acting all straight,” remarked Luca sarcastically.
“Not for you,” said Everet sharply.
“Forget Jenna,” laughed Luca. “She only lasted in two films. And then Scream 7 was total blunt-force boredom after she bailed. Emma is better!”
“Emma only lasts in one!” Everet exclaimed.
“Everyone knows Scream 4 is the best sequel in the franchise. The killer reveal actually makes sense and its the least expected. Truly masterful terror. Not to mention it was the first Scream film to presciently capture our age of social media and texting,” Luca said convincingly.
“Fine you win. So be here at 7?”
“As long as your boyfriend doesn’t come over! He’s so weird and creepy,” laughed Luca.
“He won’t. I’ll be home alone.”
“Just the way I like it,” uttered Luca. “See you soon. Bye.”
Everet was excited. His friend he had been crushing on for a month now was finally going to be alone with him in his bedroom. Sure, Everet had a boyfriend, but Luca was a total catch. Tall, hazel eyes, warm beige skin, slick brown hair, well-formed lips, and a dark dreamy smile.
“We are going to have so much fun,” whispered Everet, who was already naked in the shower fantasizing about Luca’s body against his, “I just hope I can play off the innocent boyfriend.”
Everet was shorter, but his skinny athletic body, freckled ivory white complexion, and jet black hair drove his boyfriend, Emond, crazy. He wondered if Luca felt the same, but he could never look past that poker face of his.
Ding.
“Please don’t tell me that’s Emond,” Everet exasperated.
Everet swiftly got out of the shower, grabbed a towel, and reached for his phone by the bathroom sink.
He rolled his eyes as he read Emond’s message: “Hi baby <3 I want to see you tonight <3”
“I’m not feeling well. Maybe tomorrow?” Everet texted back.
Emond: “But baby, I’m already by your house. I can make you feel better!”
Everet: “No you’ll just get sick too.”
Emond: “Are you going to hang out with another guy tonight?”
Everet: “No.”
Emond: “c'mon thn baby. Please?”
Everet: “No. Tomorrow. Bye.”
“Why can’t Luca be as obsessed with me as this guy?” Everet thought.
Dingdong went the doorbell.
Everet finished drying and put on his Ghostface teeshirt and black shorts. He ran to open the front door. It was Emond. He was breathing heavily and looking straight into Everet’s eyes, which was convenient as they were both the same height. The late afternoon sunlight, Everet noticed, made Emond’s deep caramel skin tone gleam against his white shirt that still had tinges of blood from when he supposedly fell off his bike and cut his chest.
“What are you doing here Emond?” Demanded Everet, who was only beginning to glance at Emond’s left hand.
Emond raised his phone and played the recording: “Fine you win. So be here at 7?”
“Why are you stalking me!?” Everet shouted.
“Why did you lie to me?” Emond asked with a smile of rage.
“Only you, Emond, know how to make that creepy smirk of death.”
Everet slammed the front door and locked it. He waited a minute or two, and then opened the front door again. He was surprised to see that Emond left.
He whipped out his phone: “If you come back, I’m calling the police. Fr. We’re over.”
A couple of hours had passed. It was a quarter past seven and Everet wondered where Luca was.
Everet: “Hey. Are you on you way?”
Luca: “Yh. Be there in five minutes.”
Everet: “Sweet.”
Another fifteen minutes passed. It was now 7:30 and Everet was laying in his bed scrolling through Instagram when he got a message from Luca.
Before opening the message, Everet’s heart sunk, but he couldn’t understand why.
“I’ve never felt like this before,” he said lowly to himself.
He finally opened the message.
Luca: "OMFG."
Everet: "Huh? Where are you?"
Luca: "I think you should be asking where your boyfriend is."
Everet: "Why? Wdym? Where is he?"
Everet sent the text message hastily with the pretense mask of being scared.
