Outside the airlock viewport, nebulous tendrils of incomprehensible colors slithered. Captain Leshford undid his oxygen hose.

They’d boldly gone farther than anyone dared.

But beyond: training, daring, discernment, God himself. All inconsequential ideals.

The… things… they’d discovered merely tolerated mortal existence.

“Alert. Manual Override Engaged. Airlock Opening.”
